Raven in a Cage: prologue

The girl woke slowly, her eyes heavy and slightly crusted with sleep. She felt impossibly tired and her body felt like it was one large bruise. Her breathe trembled out between her lips a ragged sound that made her fear that she might have swallowed the north wind. The hitch in her breathing must have alerted her capturer to her returning consciousness.
Cold fingers gripped her chin and forced her face upward.
